This paper analyses the construction of the News Feed in Facebook’s public texts. The objective is to map the logics enacted in these texts in relation to News Feed usage and operation. Forty texts of a Facebook webpage announcing changes in the News Feed were analyzed. The study was based on a performative understanding of text inspired by science and technology studies and the Actor-Network Theory. The analysis describes the construction of normative logic concerning the relationship between publishers and the News Feed classification system, a construction which this paper calls the algorithmic norm.Downloads
