Abstract

The article relates the author’s proposal of communication as work of diversity to the Hannah Arendt’s perception of the unpredictability of human action, characterizing a procedural logic of variation/selection in social praxis. It proposes the concept of communication processors, and their validity as a unit of variation, and offers clues for research work aimed at observing processors – ensuring the diversity of themes and knowledge issues that arise in relation to urgencies and projects involved in social praxis.

José Luiz Warren Jardim Gomes Braga, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, Goiás, Brasil

Visiting Professor at the PPG in Communication at Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG) since 2022. Professor Emeritus at Unisinos. Professor at the PPG in Communication at Unisinos (RS), from 1999 to 2021, having coordinated the Program from 2002 to 2004. PhD in Communication from the Institut Français de Presse (1984). Researcher at the Instituto de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE - Saci Project), 1969-1974 and professor at the Universidade de Brasília (UnB), 1974-1978 and 1987-1999 and at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), 1978-1987. President of COMPÓS, 1993-95. Author of "Society faces its media: devices to criticize social media" (Editora Paulus, São Paulo, 2006) and other books and academic articles in the field of Communication.
