We present our assumptions for evaluation of the quality in the TV news from the theoretical-methodological perspective of cultural studies in association with the language studies, what implies the consideration of social, ideological and cultural aspects of TV news. We develop the argument that television news is a social institution and a cultural form. To consider it in these terms implies to bring for the analysis of the quality the parameters of truth and relevance and the news criteria that characterize the occidental model in contemporary journalism. The concepts of television genre and mode of address must guide the concrete examination of TV news, considered, in the first case, from the existence of social and historical relations between the forms that the TV news assumes throughout the time and the societies where these forms are practiced; as in the second case, from the way as an specific program relates with its viewers from the construction of a style and, when making this, it configures and reconfigures the proper genre.Downloads
