The article examines the use of generative artificial intelligence to create images from historical archives, focusing on the ontological crisis that blurs distinctions such as true/false and original/copy. It aims to investigate how this crisis relates to contemporary modes of image production and political cynicism. The methodology includes critical analysis of articles in the press, documentaries and social media videos, departing from various philosophical perspectives. It concludes that the combination of AI and disinformation undermines links between image and effectiveness, weakening collective memory and public debate.
