Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of hybridization from the Cultural Studies theoretical perspective. Starting from Jacques Derrida’s considerations over the fragmented nature of signs, la différance, it proceeds with the consensual comprehensions (as well as some non-consensual understandings) of what is “to be hybrid”, according to Stuart Hall and Homi Bhabha – relating them, whenever possible, to the Latin American context.
