Abstract

The importance of musical biographies is well-known. Apart from motivating a lot of research works, they are also fundamental for the consolidation of musical consumption and for the sedimentation of the music industry pillars, star system and pop music. Resorting to a biography of João Peste, Portuguese musician and performer of a relevant musical project on the alternative pop area, we intend to clarify that the object of Sociology is neither the artist himself, nor the relationship between his/her school and entourage, but the set of objective and interaction relationships between the cultural agent and other cultural agents involved in the creation of the social value of the work of art (critics, journalists, promoters, managers, etc.). The approach of this artist and his work is related, in this context, to the answer to the question: “who creates the creator” in the pop art?
