Abstract

This text aims to evaluate how the different religious groups are represented in the news media in Brazil and the understanding of religion built and affirmed by the producers of this news. The study was guided by the hypothesis that the news highlights the institutionalized Roman Catholicism, fueled by the social imaginary of "true and valid religion." Through a content analysis it was possible to identify, from a survey of materials that dealt with the theme "Religion" during the year 2014, in the collection of Folha de S. Paulo and Jornal Nacional, how an exclusivist notion of religion is built in the country from the news.
