Abstract

This paper proposes (a) a literature review that takes into account the seemingly paradoxical relationship between the perception of the relational networks involved in political action transcend the focus on the individual as isolated unit, while the individual personal choices on social networks has a growing role; and (b) to establish the relationship between these two dynamics and a particular type of flow of political online information in social networks: memes. We begin the paper by addressing some factors that give the individual online behavior of ordinary citizens relevance in the circulation of political information on social networks in general, and, further on, discussing the memes that circulated in the 2014 presidential elections in Brazil seeking to confirm the relevance of our theoretical proposals.
