Pornotopies – space, media and sexuality

It is analyzed the articulation among an online social network, urban space and experiences of (homo)sexuality, underscoring the communicative potential brought by internet and underlying the cultural and historical vestiges of gay sociability. Excerpts of online profiles and interviews with the users of the site are used. Internet is taken as a heterotopy, and specifically the online social network is approached by the concept of pornotopy. It is mentioned the relations among security, discretion and violence in the occupation of certain spaces. The conclusion suggests that the uses of internet made by the interviewed men respond to constritions of a historically stigmatized sexuality.Downloads
