Abstract

This article investigates how mistrust is presented as a fundamental element in Christian Petzold's work. It analyzes the diferent levels in which it is present: a political condition that exists among the narratives; a strategy for a self-conscious acting; and a means by which estrangement is created in the spectator. Petzold gives continuity to the aesthetic propositions of Douglas Sirk and Rainer Werner Fassbinder by using the domain of film genres as a ground for a political cinema. He seeks a staging that exposes the social and historical that shapes the society portraited in his films.
