This article analyzes the creative process in the use of popular songs in feature films directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, aiming to demonstrate that the musical selection in his films reveals recurring stylistic and authorial traits, such as melomania and nostalgia. The analyzed corpus includes the feature films Neighboring sounds (2012), Aquarius (2016), Bacurau (2019), and Pictures of ghosts (2023). The research adopts inferential criticism as its methodology, which goes beyond film analysis to consider the cultural contexts of the creative process, with a predominant focus on the relationships between lyrical poetry and dramatic action. The results indicate that musical selection functions as a structuring element of the narrative and characterization.
