This article investigates theoretical and methodological convergences between the field of media literacy and Cultural Studies. To this end, it explores the contributions of British and Latin American Cultural Studies to the development of a research approach focused on critical media reading and the strengthening of reception studies, which were precursors to media literacy research. Accordingly, a bibliographic review was conducted on studies related to media literacy to identify how Cultural Studies perspectives have contributed to a critical and creative understanding of media, culture, and, consequently, the field of communication and education.
