Abstract: In this article, we take the film The missing image (2013) as a mnemonic device that allows the filmmaker, Rithy Panh, to reconstruct his experience of the Cambodian genocide, through memories and the lack of them. By committing himself to the testimony of a time of terror lived collectively, Panh puts the past into elaboration through images - archives or filmed dolls - and also reaches two issues related to cinema: on the one hand, its insufficiency in the face of trauma process, and, on the other hand, its political power in repairing social damage. On of the singularities of this power is the way with the childhood remembered in the film is revealed as resistance.
