This is a study of the queer traces in the biography and filmography of Alberto Cavalcanti, a Brazilian filmmaker who built a career between France and England, where he took part in the main avant-garde movements of the first half of the 20th century. In the studies that have existed so far, his homosexuality has been widely reported, but never studied. The aim is therefore to analyze the homoerotic residues in the biography of this modern and cosmopolitan filmmaker, as well as to study the homoerotic content of his short film Coalface (1935). The methodology makes essayistic use of a triangulation between reading biographical texts, examining scientific literature and producing film analysis.
